Transit Route Deviation (2011)
Introduction
Northfield Transit moving from its current dial-a-ride service to a combination of route deviation and dial-a-ride service in order to increase the level of service to the community. The new transit operation will be implemented in September 2011. Those interested in the new routes and those who would like to provide input will find information about the process on these webpages.
The routes are in action!
Starting January 3, 2012 the new routes, service hours and fares went into action in Northfield. The City Council confirmed the routes, service schedule, fares, and policies at the January 3, 2012 Council meeting.
Route maps are available in English and Spanish:
- Route map brochure (PDF)
- Mapa de Rutas (PDF)
Minor changes are expected over the coming months as we go through this major transition to bus service in the community. We appreciate the patience of our current riders through this period of adjustment and we welcome new riders who are now able utilize Northfield Transit!
Public Comment Period: Nov. 16 - Dec. 31, 2011
The City Council accepted a set of proposed routes and rider policies (updated with changes requested by the Council) at the November 15, 2011 meeting. Comments from the public regarding the routes and policies will be taken through the end of December 2011. The route map and policies posted here may be updated to correct minor spelling or grammar errors.
While some minor changes may be made to the routes or policies, it is expected that the new routes will roll out in January 2012.

Project Process

More Information about Route Deviation
Route deviation is different from the fixed bus routes seen in major cities. We have created a page of Frequently-Asked Questions (en Español) to help answer common questions about route deviation and why the city is moving in this direction.
