Building Code Board of Appeals
The City of Northfield Building Code Board of Appeals hears and decides appeals of orders, decisions, or determinations made by the building official relative to the application and interpretation of the Bulding code.
An application for appeal shall be based on a claim that the true intent of the building code or the rules legally adopted have been incorrectly interpreted, the provisions of this code do not fully apply, or an equally good or better form of construction is proposed. Appeals will not be heard that argue the literal understanding of the building code. The board shall have no authority to waive requirements of the Building code. All decisions made by the Board will be sent to the State Building Official for a final decision.
The Building Code Board of Appeals shall consist of five voting members appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council. Members serve three-year terms. There is no term limit. Members do not receive monetary compensation. The building official serves as an ex-officio member.
Applications for membership on the Building Code Board of Appeals are available by contacting the City of Northfield City Clerk at City Hall, 801 Washington Street.
Appeal hearings, when requested, will be held on a Thursday at 7:00 p.m., if at all possible. However, in the event of a conflict on a Thursday, hearings will be scheduled to meet the requirements of the ordinance.
