Sources of City Revenue

Real estate taxes are one of the chief sources of revenue for the city. In addition, the City of Northfield receives funds from the State of Minnesota in the form of local government aid and homestead credits. Additional revenues are generated by other means, including licenses, permits, various service fees, interest earnings and revenue from the municipal liquor store.

Operating a city the size of Northfield, Minnesota, demands substantial resources to maintain public services for our citizens. Our City Council is committed to the highest possible level of service with minimal impact on property taxes.

The financial operations of the City are handled by the Finance Department, which also administers the City’s utility billings and special assessments.
