Sidewalk Poetry

Sidewalk Poetry
The Arts and Culture Commission launched the Sidewalk Poetry Project in 2011 with support from the Friends and Foundation of the Northfield Public Library, the Streetscape Task Force and the Northfield City Council.

A capstone event in August 2012 celebrated the installation of the 2011 and 2012 winning poems.

In 2011, nine poems were chosen for imprint in the sidewalks downtown. Read the 2011 winners. These poems were imprinted in sidewalks in the summer of 2012.

In 2012, the Arts and Culture Commission/City of Northfield applied for and received an Arts and Culture Legacy grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council to continue the project. In 2012 ten winning poems were selected and imprinted downtown.

In2013 Paul Krause, well-known local documentary film maker,  filmed that year's  2013 winners in a documentary that includes the judging, interviews with the winners, the installation process and the final celebratory event.  Paul Krause's documentary can be viewed  here: Paul Krause Documentary.

The 2014 contest winners have just been announced! 2014 winners.
