Organics Recycling/Composting

Collect food and non-recyclable paper from your kitchen, place them into biodegradable bags, and bring them to the Northfield Compost Site.

Acceptable items

  • All food products can be composted including
  • Fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Bread
  • Cereal
  • Dairy
  • Meat (including bones)
  • Coffee grounds, filters and tea bags
  • Non-recyclable paper including
  • Paper towels
  • Plates
  • Napkins
  • Pizza boxes

Unacceptable items

  • Plastic bags
  • Styrofoam
  • Glass
  • Metal
  • Diapers
  • Pet waste

Location

An organics dumpster is located at the compost site for disposal.

    Monday, closed
    Tuesday - Friday, 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. (or sunset)
    Saturday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (or sunset)
    Sunday, noon - 5 p.m. (or sunset)
    Holidays, closed

    If sunset occurs before the closing time, the site will close due to darkness. The compost site does not have lights.

An organics dumpster is also located on the east side of the Northfield Street Shop.
