Library Board Planning

Planning Activities

The Library Board is engaged in active planning activities. In 2005, the City of Northfield hired Robert H. Rohlf Associates to prepare a needs assessment and building program for the library and Meyer Scherer & Rockcastle (MS & R Architects) to evaluate the current library building.

Needs Assessment Preliminary Report

In preparation for writing the report, Bob Rohlf and his associate Jan Feye-Stukas interviewed many Northfield residents and held four focus group sessions. The final document, published in 2006, includes demographic information, comparative data, and community visions for the library. Site Feasibility Study

Following the Rohlf report, MS & R completed a feasibility study on expanding the library on its current site. View the June 2008 Site Feasibility Study.

The Future of the Library

In March of 2012, the Friends of the library and the Northfield-Cannon Falls League of Women Voters collaborated to bring together a panel of librarians and an architect to talk about the future of libraries. View the notes from this discussion.

The Library Board is now considering a project to refresh the library and provide better public service in the short term. More information on this proposed project will be available soon.
