Fireworks Safety

The Northfield Police Department wants everyone to have a safe, enjoyable 4th of July. We urge the community to attend the City Fireworks Display at 10:00 p.m. near the Northfield Middle School.

If you plan to watch the public fireworks display, please do not block roads, streets, sidewalks, driveways, etc. This is one of our most common complaints in the area of the fireworks display.

Fireworks safety tips

We also ask the community to observe and consider the following safety tips during this great national celebration:

  • We want everyone to be safe and encourage parents to closely supervise any use of fireworks.
  • It is recommended to have a water source or fire extinguisher closely available while using fireworks.
  • Be considerate of neighbors, animals, etc. when using fireworks.
  • Do not use fireworks near flammable or combustible materials.
  • Clean up debris from ignited fireworks.
  • Minnesota statutes include the following restrictions:
    • Legal fireworks can only be used on Private Property, not on city streets, parks, etc.
    • Fireworks that explode or shoot into the air are illegal.
    • Most violations of the fireworks laws are Misdemeanors. Adults and juveniles can be cited for violations.

Fourth of July weekend is also a time we encourage people to drive safely and not drink and drive. Traffic citations, traffic crashes, and crash-related injuries and deaths are often high on the 4th of July weekend. Please obey traffic laws and plan for a sober driver.
