[ARCHIVED] Applications available to businesses and nonprofits seeking CARES Act funding

Downtown businesses

Businesses and nonprofits looking for financial relief due to COVID-19 can apply for CARES Act funding through the City of Northfield.

Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act provides for payments to state, local and tribal governments navigating the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak. The City of Northfield received approximately $1.5 million through the federal CARES Act. The Northfield City Council is allocating $300,000 in grants for businesses and $200,000 in grants for nonprofits.

The goals of the funding are to stabilize the local economy, stabilize households and provide social support, stimulate the local economy for recovery, and invest strategically for long-term impact. Additionally, the City Council is focused on allocating the money toward minority-owned businesses and nonprofits serving minorities and people with low incomes.

The City already approved approximately $500,000 to local organizations with time sensitive expenses. Those funds covered food and food infrastructure, technology and access for learning and jobs, and outdoor seating and dining infrastructure.

Additionally, the City is working with the State on other COVID-19 related housing assistance programs.

To use the CARES Act funds, the expenses must be accrued between March 1 and December 30, 2020. Applications to the City must be received between September 8 and 30, 2020.

Businesses and nonprofits can apply for CARES Act funding on the city’s website:
