Welcome back to the 2019 Street Reclamation Project "Notify Me" application!  This will be the main communication tool the City of Northfield utilizes to communicate project information to property owners and residents regarding the 2019 Street Reclamation Project.  Updates will be sent periodically throughout the construction project to update subscribers on construction progress, and the proposed construction schedule.  

City Staff mailed Construction Newsletter Vol. 2 today to all adjacent property owners on the 2019 Street Reclamation Project.  This newsletter includes the proposed schedule and map for all phases of the project.  The majority of the information listed below, is also listed in the Newsletter.

Below is a quick overview of each construction phase, and the proposed schedule for the 2020 construction season.

Phase 1
Simione Court, Nelson Court, Kimble Court, Hackerson Court, Grundhoefer Court, Eklund Court, Covey Court, Lockwood Drive, Gill Lane, Zanmiller Drive, and Bluestem Court
The majority of construction on Phase 1 was completed during the fall of 2019.  Construction crews are scheduled to be on-site early May to complete the remaining construction activities.  Those activities include:
  • Black dirt installation and boulevard grading
  • Sod and tree installation
  • Installation of the "Wear Course" paving
  • Pavement striping
Crews expect to complete the remaining work on Phase 1 by the end of May, with the exception of the pavement striping, which will be completed with Phase 2.  Motorists can expect minor closures to complete the remaining construction on Phase 1.

Phase 2
Third Street, Fourth Street, Armstrong Road, Forest Avenue Loop, Poplar Street, Plum Street, and Orchard Street
Phase 2 has been broken down into two sub-phases, Phase 2A, and Phase 2B.  Work on Phase 2 is expected to begin on April 13, 2020, and be completed by late August.  Below is a more detailed schedule of Phase 2A an Phase 2B.

Phase 2A
Third Street from Orchard Street to TH 3, Fourth Street from Odd Fellows Lane to Orchard Street, and Plum Street from Poplar Street to Orchard Street, Orchard Street from Fourth Street to Third Street, Poplar Street from Fourth Street to Third Street, Armstrong Road from TH 19 to Lincoln Street, and the Forest Avenue Loop
Phase 2A is scheduled to begin on April 13. 2020.  The major construction activities for Phase 2A include:
  • Tree Removals
  • Removal of existing driveways, curbs and gutters, and retaining walls
  • Storm sewer installations
  • Retaining wall installations
  • New sidewalk, curb and gutter, and driveway installations
  • Pavement reclamation
  • Installation of "Base Course" paving
  • Sod and tree installation
  • Landscape installations
  • Installation of "Wear Course" paving
  • Pavement striping
Phase 2A is expected to be completed by late August 2020.

Phase 2B
Third Street from Odd Fellows Lane to Orchard Street, Fourth Street from Orchard Street to Plum Street, Orchard Street from Fourth Street to Fifth Street, and Plum Street from Fourth Street o Fifth Street
Phase 2B is scheduled to begin June 8, 2020.  Phase 2B will include the same work as Phase 2A, with the addition of watermain replacements. Property owners adjacent to Phase 2B can expect longer duration closures when the watermain replacement is occurring.  The resident project observer will maintain contact throughout the project to keep property owners informed of the construction progress. Phase 2B is  also expected to be completed by late August 2020 as well.

Property Owner Meetings
Due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, City Staff is currently following the Minnesota Department of Health’s social distancing guidelines.  Therefore, City Staff is requesting phone meetings in lieu of face-to-face meetings with property owners to discuss project schedules and effects on individual properties.  Nate Becker, of the City of Northfield, will be providing construction observation and coordination.  Nate is available by phone Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm to answer all questions you may have regarding the project.  With the project scheduled to begin Phase 2 on April 13, 2020, City Staff is requesting property owners please contact Nate during the week of April 6, 2020.   Nate can be contacted at (507) 291-6490, or by email @ nate.becker@ci.northfield.mn.us
